I'm excited to connect with readers and share the stories behind my book. Check out my blog, interact with me, and discover the inspiration that goes into my writing. Let's embark on this literary journey together!
I just finished reading this excellent memoir by my friend Alan MacDonald. We were colleagues in the same international organization for a number of years and even spent time together in the Philippines, although our paths did not cross frequently. Alan specialized in public and government relations. This gave him a unique perspective on our work and on the context in which we lived and worked. His book is brimming with touching and humorous accounts of his experiences with the wealthy and prominent as well as with the very ordinary people of the countries in which he worked. He presents himself as a bit of a troublemaker as a child and young man who eventually discovers his passion and settles down to a very meaningful and influential role as an advocate and supporter of the marginalized, indigenous communities in a variety of countries. So many of his stories brought back special memories for me and left me wishing for more, so I was happy to read on page 302, "There are many more stories to tell about spending time with the poorest of the poor as well as with world leaders..." I'm eagerly awaiting the sequel that this statement seems to promise. If you are looking for a good read, this is a good place to start. -- Hart Wiens, Canada
Reading your book while travelling seemed very fitting. Thank you for keeping me company through our delayed flights today! One of our daughters read a couple of pages over my shoulder and commented, "This writer seems to do important things, but always laugh(s) too. I like that." -- Hazel Sorsamo, Finland
Wow! I learned so many things!
I finished your memoir... wow! so many things I learned and so many things explained! It's true, God created our personalities in our mother's womb. We can guide children in the path they should go, but we cannot change their personalities~ I see you had .. a "spirited" personality from the beginning!.. When you and Doris left for Hong Kong I still remember realizing this was what stepping out in faith really meant! You left with just your suitcases and no place to live! Y'all truly inspired me...My book club is reading it now! .. Any chance of a FaceTime call that day? -- Jennifer, Texas
Alan McDonald’s memoir is an absolute delight—engaging, inspiring, and often humorous. Wonderfully written, it’s one of those books that’s hard to put down. Each chapter offers a glimpse into an interesting life well lived, filled with wisdom, adventure, and heartwarming moments. The storytelling is both entertaining and deeply meaningful, making it a must-read for anyone who loves a great personal journey. Highly recommended! -- Tea Snob, VA
